Observational platform for particle and gas in situ + gas remote sensing, rural (background) location in a forest area, also an ICOS ecosystem and EMEP level 1 site.

Official monitoring station of the Walloon air quality network (reference background station). General gas and particles in situ measurement are performed there for more than 20 years. There is also a PTMR-TOF for gas remote sensing and a 45m tower. Vielsalm station is also ICOS labeled and EMEP level 1. There is enough space and electricity to install additional instruments both outside and inside a container. Various parallel studies are performed on the site including PM gravimetry, speciation, but also drone measurements and use of satellite date (Vielsalm is part of the official STEREO area). Collaboration with various universities (Liège, Namur ...) and research centers (BIRA-IASB, IRM ...) are in place and additional instruments have been installed (MAX-DOAS ...) within this cooperation agreement. The idea is to share budgets and expertise at this location in a way to try to build a super site there.
