Description
The Schmücke measuring station is located in the ridge area of the Thuringian Forest at an altitude of 937 metres, around 7 km north-east of the city of Suhl. It was set up in 1976 by the Meteorological Service of the GDR and was incorporated into the Federal Environment Agency's air monitoring network at the end of 1991. Located in the centre of Germany, the station is representative of low mountain ranges and records widely transported air masses from western and eastern Europe. The monitoring station fulfils measurement obligations under EU law and EMEP.
