Facility PI
Observational platform at an urbanized setting surrounded by forest, within rural lowlands amidst two large lignite mines and agricultural areas.
The facility has been performing continuous ground-based remote sensing since 2011. Ground-based active and passive remote sensing instruments are used to observe cloud and precipitation as well as the atmospheric boundary layer structure. Temperature and humidity profiling measurements are carried out, as well measurements for obtaining horizontal and vertical winds including turbulence. The scientific objectives of JOYCE are to develop new methodologies for quantifying clouds and precipitation, perfrom model and satellite evaluation and to better understand the cloud life cycle an environment with multiple, complex influences.
