Observational platform combines 3 valley/mountain sites (Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zugspitze and Zugspitze-Schneefernerhaus) at the northern edge of the Alps.
The Mount Zugspitze is the highest mountain of the German Alps. It is located in southern Germany, about 90 km southwest of Munich, at the Austrian border near the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The Environmental Research Station Zugspitze-Schneefernerhaus (ZSF) is located on the southern slope of the Mount Zugspitze. No vegetation, bare rocks, covered by snow from October to June.
ZSF:
The ZSF is a GAW global Station, part of ICOS, EMEP and the Air Quality Network of the German Environment Agency. The monitoring program of the station includes measurements of aerosols, VOC, reactive trace and climate gases. Special research targets of the station are measurements of background and long-distance transport pollutions in the high alpine region. In ACTRIS the ZSF is contributing to aerosol in situ measurements.
