ground-based fixed, rural environment, in the vicinity of the small city of Payerne of 10'000 inhabitants.
Pay is part of GRUAN (radio-sounding), SwissMetNet (operational in-situ measurements of meteo parameters), EMER-Met (remote sensing of meteo parameters), BSRN (radiation), AERONET, EARLINET, ACTRIS, E-Profile and Auto-Pollen.
It also has soil moisture measurements.

PAY has a in-situ and remote aerosol component as well as a remote cloud component. It is moreover a meteorological station with radio-sounding and comprise automatic pollen measurements. A NABEL station with main gazeous compound is also available.
