Obsevational platform, Plain boundary layer, Rural, Mediterranean climate shifting towards semiarid, Natural background
Regional background station of Cyprus, lies in the middle of the island.
Scientific scope: Monitor air masses from three different continents (Europe, Asia, Africa). Only site in Europe influenced by air masses from the M. East and the related desert areas.
Measurement focus: Dust properties and NPF, which is very frequent in the area. Long term (decadal at least) measurements of AOD, aerosol absorption, chemical composition, and trace gases. Focus is on dust particles and its properties.
Shorter timeseries of nano particle number concentration, aerosol scattering
Research Capabilities: Ability to host another lab of instrumentation with respect to space and power supply. CyI owned runway for drone measurements 7 km away. Has been used for campaigns focusing on NPF and dust.
