RADO Galati is a cloud remote sensing station located in the Eastern part of Romania (45.4°N, 28°E) and the station is an urban station and is neighbouring the Danube river. The station is part of Climate Change Observation Plaform which belongs to the new research infrastructure REXDAN, built during 2020-2023, as a result of the project "An Integrated System for the Complex Environmental Research and Monitoring in the Danube River Area", REXDAN, SMIS code 127065, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Competitiveness Operational Programme 2014-2020; Contract no. 309/ 10.07.2020.
The research infrastructure REXDAN has laboratories on a research vessel an on the mainland, in the city. Besides the instruments that compose the CRS station, other equipment and instruments are available at the Climate Change and Atmospheric laboratories in REXDAN, as e.g. radiation equipment, air pollution monitoring, etc.
The facility is the result of a larger effort to build a research infrastructure for the environment, that has two components: a research vessel and a research centre, supporting research activities in: chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, ecology, bathymetry, topography, atmospheric chemistry, sustainable development, related to water, sediments, soil, air, biodiversity, bathymetry, hydromorphology.
Specifically, the CRS instruments are part of the Climate Change platform, which has a counterpart as an Atmospheric laboratory. The scientific focus is atmospheric physical and chemical properties/composition, climate science, atmosphere-water-soil interactions.
